Outlook XP 'email accounts' password

After I reinstalled Windows Vista, Outlook XP will not remember a password in
email accounts. It acts like it is remembering the password, but when I test
account settings, I fail to connect to the incoming server and fail to send a
test message. Then the next time I open Outlook after having closed it, there
will be no password in the email accounts under 'tools', even though I had
previously typed one in and checked the 'Remember Password' box. I have
another computer that Outlook XP works fine on. It exhibits the usual
behavior on Windows Vista of requiring you to re-enter your password in a
popup window the first time you try to send/receive mail each time after
having started Outlook. But it remembers the email password in email accounts
under 'Tools' on the menu bar just fine. I have uninstalled and re-installed
Outlook, deleted the key directly under 'Protected Storage System Provider in
the Registry and then re-started Outlook, to no avail. What can I do so that
Outlook will remember my password in 'email accounts' under 'Tools' and then
only require that it be re-entered in a popup window each time Outlook is
restarted. Outlook will not download any of my mail. Please help!

This is a known issue with Outlook 2002 on Vista because it's not a
supported combination. Outlook 2002 is not compatible with Vista.
