Importing Outlook 2007 files and settings into Vista

I was using Outlook 2007 on my Win XP PC with no problem. Then I saved all
the files in the C:\Documents and Settings\Matt\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook folder before switching to a new Vista machine also
running Outllok 2007. I found the equivilent folder and copied the files
back, but Outlook doesn't see them. How do I make Outlook see my mail and
contacts etc please?

You'd better tell us what the equivalent folder was, because it's nothing
like the path from Outlook in XP. For instance, there is no Documents and
Settings folder in Vista. Open 2007 Outlook in Vista. Go to Tools, Account
Settings, and select the Data tab. One of the paths there will tell you
where this Outlook is looking for your .pst file(s). By the way, did you
import the .pst file or just copy it into the 'equivalent' folder.

Looked at your message heading again. Are you moving mail from Outlook in XP
to Outlook in Vista as your message reads or into WM as your heading reads?
Are we talking Outlook to Outlook or OE to WM?

I am moving mail from Outlook 2007 in XP to Outlook 2007 in Vista - sorry for
the confusion.

The path was:
C:\Users\server\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst
I just copied the files into the "equivilent" folder.
Thanks,
Matt

When you did this, you probably overwrote the existing .PST file and likely
corrupted your Outlook profile in the process. The best bet is to start
over. Create a new Outlook profile:

How to create a new e-mail profile in Outlook 2007 and in Outlook 2003

Copy the old .PST file to a location on the Vista machine where it will NOT
overwrite any existing .PST files, open Outlook 2007 using the new profile,
go to 'File|Open|Outlook Data File', navigate to the location of the copied
..PST file, and open it. You can now drag and drop the contents into the
default .PST created with the new profile, or set the old .PST file as the
default and continue using it.

Hi Hal, no, I didn't overwrite it, I had renamed the new file. I imported my
saved file sucessfully into Outllok, but I seem to have lost all my hundreds
of rules, my email accounts and my signatures. I did however, recover my mail
and folders. How can I restore my Rules, accounts and signatures please?

Rules are in the .PST file, you need to abandon the import and open the copy
you imported from using 'File|Open|Outlook Data File. Importing a .PST
loses the following additional information.

1. Custom Forms
2. Custom Views
3. Connections between contacts and activities
4. Received dates on mail
5. Birthdays and anniversaries in calendar
6. Journal connections
7. Distribution Lists.

Accounts are kept in the Registry, you can use XP's "Files and Settings
Transfer Wizard" to move them. For signatures and other data, look here:
