If your word document uses styles, you can save the document in .rtf format,
and PPT will recognize the styles. I have always used the predefined 'Header
1, Header 2, etc.' styles - Each Header 1 paragraph will start a new slide
and be placed in the title placeholder, Header 2 will be the first level
indent in the text placeholder, Header 3 will be the 2nd level indent, and so
on.

After setting up the styles, save as .rtf and open the file with PPT, apply
the appropriate design template, and you should be good.

Hi Cosmo

I didn't know about the rtf thing - I always set up my slides first then use
Insert -> slides from outline (2003) or Home tab -> new slide drop down ->
slides from outline. I believe there is a command in Word too but can't
remember what it is.

Send to PowerPoint. <g> It's on the File button in Word 2003. In Word 2007,
you have to add it to the QAT. (It's in "commands not found in the Ribbon.)

2007 has a bug I just learned about recently -- it will only import 36
slides from outline. Go figure. That's with all of the following: 1) Send to
PPT from Word and 2) opening either the DOCX or RTF file directly in PPT and
3) using New Slide| Slides From Outline.

I thought that was it but didn't want to commit and couldn't be bothered
checking <g>

I didn't know about the bug - I suppose you would have to split the Word
file into parts, create the PowerPoints then recombine. What a kerfuffle.
