Import Excel - Error Message

While importing through the Import Speadsheet Wizard into Access, I get an
error message "Method 'Columns' of object 'IImexGrid' failed". What does
this mean to me?

Thanks

Hi Karrie,

Could be one of the following (maybe there are other causes):

1) Worksheet or workbook is protected. To check, open the workbook in
Excel and go to the worksheet. In the Tools|Protection submenu, if it
says "Unprotect Sheet" or "Unprotect Workbook", protection is turned on.

Turn it off and see if that helps.

2) There are cells on the sheet you're trying to import that are in use,
or that have been used, but are outside the range covered by the data
you're interested in. (It can be enough for one of these cells to have
had a format applied to it.)

One way round this is to select the data you want to import and name the
range (Insert|Name|Define). Save the workbook, and then use the Access
import wizard to import the named range.

Another is to delete all the rows and columns of the worksheet beyond
the data you want to import.

3) I've seen a couple of reports that suggest that you can also get this
message if (a) you choose the "first row contains headers" option in the
import wizard and (b) not all the cells in the first row of the Excel
data contain valid Access field names. (But this may be a red herring.)
