IMAP and Outlook 2003

Nicolas Macarez

Hi you all!

I am running the current configuration:

Windows XP Pro SP2 clients with Outlook 2003 SP1 installed
Lotus Notes 6.5.2 messaging server running the IMAP protocol
Mail Accounts set up on the Outlook 2003 clients as an IMAP accounts

My issues are:

1. Unable to delete permanently the messages in the Inbox (they stay with a
bar in the middle)
2. Unable to create new Folders in the Inbox
3. Unable to access the addresses which are in the LDAP directory although I
did configure the access to the directory in Outlook (Tools, Accounts...,
New directory, etc.)

I'm fairly new to IMAP (which looks great for what I'm trying to set up), so
my question is more general: where can I find some deep insight about IMAP
and Outlook?

Help greatly appreciated.

1) Deleting them marks them for deletion, you need to Edit, Purge to
actually remove them. I usually use a view that either hides items marked
for deletion or sorts them to the bottom.

2) Assuming you are using the correct steps (Right click on Inbox, New
folder..) - it could be the server, not outlook, that is not allowing them.
Also, if it seems to work but you can't see the folders, do you have them
marked to show in the folder list? (reset the folder list)

3) are you getting any errors?

Diane,
Many thanks for your quick reply.

1. I can effectively purge/delete definitively the mails.

2. I still can't create sub-folders in the Inbox folder. I shall see this
point with the administrator of the Lotus Notes Server. However, I wonder if
it is not the IMAP way of functionning that prevents that. Anyway, I can
create Folders outside the Inbox (just beneath); the mails inside this new
folder stay on the server and are even visible from a Lotus Notes mail
client. Folder created under the Lotus Notes mail client are however not
visible in Outlook.

3. No LDAP or address book avalaible whatsoever.

Still whishing to know more about IMAP.

Regards

Nicolas

I'm sure it depends on the capabilities of the underlying IMAP server. For
example, one IMAP server to which I connect does not contain the concept of
subfolders. If I try to create one, I receive an error.
