Images won't display possible solution

I've noticed that a lot of people, including myself, have had issues with
images not displaying correctly in IE6. I tried many of the suggestions of
emptying my cache, checking my security settings, and even editing the
registry values. My problem was solved by turning the Windows Firewall
OFF. I'm not sure why this helped, but I can only guess that it had
interfered with the javascript used to preload the images. I could
right-click on images and do Show Images to view them, but they would
never display without doing that until I turned off the firewall.

Hope this helps somebody else out there!

If you are running Win2K, WinXP or Win2K3 you'll be sorry if you run without
a firewall even sooner than if you're running Win95, Win98 or WinMe.

Frank,

What if I'm using a hardware firewall instead of the MS Firewall? I
thought the hardware firewall worked, too.

I also have another option that may help. I believe I read it somewhere
else, but I can't seem to find it, so I guess it wouldn't hurt to have
it available here...

1. Click Tools > Internet Options.
2. In the Temporary Internet files section, click Settings.
3. Click Automatically (I'm not sure about this step, but I did it
anyway)
4. Click View Objects. A Windows Explorer window opens listing all of
the Downloaded Program Files used by IE.
5. If you aren't in Details view, click View > Details. You should see
a group of columns, such as Program File, Status, Total Size, etc...
6. In the status column, look for the word Damaged.
7. If you see Damaged, delete the corresponding Program File.

This was what was happening to me at work, and doing this solved my
image loading problems.

Sorry, forgot to put this in the steps:

8. Close the Downloaded Program Files window.
9. Click the OK button in the Settings dialog box.
10. Click the OK button in the Internet Options dialog box.
11. Close IE and reopen. (This step might not be necessary, but do it
anyway) ;-)

I missed where you said you had a hardware firewall.

Sorry, I didn't state I had one in my first post. I thought I did until
I looked at it again.

Brian
