Images randomly won't display in IE6

I've got this weird problem with IE6 SP1. If I view a page on our intranet
or on the local machine, some images will randomly not appear (red X or
white square). If I refresh they may come back or other ones will dissapear
It is completely random, though it is usually only certain images which are
the culprits. There's nothing distinctive about these images (mostly gifs).

Online pages seem to display ok... I've tried everything short of a reformat
(which I REALLY don't want to do) and nothing works - as a c# web developer
it is making my work a living hell :blush:/

I've tried the following with zero success -

Checking 'View -> encoding'
Reinstalling IE6
Disabling AV software
this KB article -
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;283807

Worse, this issue is also causing javascript errors, equally randomly.
Refresh the
page and it might work..! This issue has gone on for months and I can't find
any way of solving it!!

TIA

Simon
