IIS problem with Old Server Name

I ran dcpromo to demote a domain controller (Windows 2000 server) so I could
change its name because I was changing its role. I had already installed IIS
on it before I demoted it. I then promoted it again and installed Exchange
2003. Everything seems to recognize the new name except IIS. It had
created the IWAM and IUSR accounts with the old server name. I deleted them,
rebooted and it recreated them with the old server name. This became an
issue when I tried to enable Forms Based Authentication in Exchange as I get
an "RPC Server not available error"and the event log says Event ID 10009
DCOM was unable to communicate with the computer [OLD server name].com using
any of the configured protocols. I am new to Exchange -- up until now our
mail has been hosted offsite. How do I correct this?
Thanks.

The above seems to imply that you can't change the names of the
accounts. Also, when you deleted the account and they were recreated,
they were possibly recreated with a different ID. I'm not really sure
where you should go from here - you may get more help in the Exchange
and IIS groups, though this problem does span all three.

This is a fairly common problem and can be fixed with the AdsUtil.vbs and
SyncIWAM.vbs scripts in the \inetpub\adminscripts directory. You first
change the IUSR and IWAM account names using AdsUtil.vbs (adsutil.vbs set
w3svc/anonymoususername and adsutil set w3svc/wamusername) followed by
synciwam.vbs to get COM+ back in sync with the IIS metabase.

You should be able to Goggle the exact instructions.

Hope that helps,

Wayne
