Ignoring ink-out message? (Brother DCP-110c)

Brother DCP-110c multi-function printer/scanner/etc.

The printer's LCD display gives the "Replace ink cartridges" message.
Reseating doesn't do anything (I was hoping to use the last bit of ink).

If I only want to print black, is it possible to just replace that one ink
cart and print? Or must all of the colors be replaced in order for any
printing to proceed?

Apparently there is no reset possible for this model of cartridge, so new
cartridges are required vs. refilling.

Thanks,

You cannot use this printer unless all cartridges have ink in them, this is a
design criteria to protect the heads. This is true for all inkjets that have
separate heads and ink tanks.

And the real bummer you can not use the All In One to scan unless there
is ink in it. Plus they waste ink like crazy.
