IEEE 1394 does not detect firewire devices

I have two firewire devices (an ipod and an external hard drive) which have
been working fine until now. Now my firewire devices cannot be detected.
I have followed various troubleshooting advice through checking the device
manager and network connections and there seems to be no apparent problem
with the port. All healthy.
I have checked that my devices work on other computers so it is definitely
the port at issue.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?
