Problems Daisy Chaining External Firewire Hard Drive Enclosures

HelpMe

I have 2 external firewire hard drive enclosures. There is 1 hard
drive in each enclosure. When 1 enclosure is connected to my desktop
1394 firewire port, the hard drive is recognized without any problems.
When I connect, for example, enclosure 1 to my desktop 1394 firewire
port and then connect enclosure 2 to enclosure 1, XP SP2 only
recognizes files on the hard drive in enclosure 1. The same holds true
when I try to daisy chain the 2 enclosures connected to my laptop.

This is my first experience with firewire. I thought one of the
features of firewire is devices could be daisy chained. How are the
devices recognized when daisy chained? Are there cabling issues?
Are there settings in XP SP2 to get XP to see files on the hard drive
in both enclosures when daisy chained?

Any help would be appreciated.

TIA

HelpMe

Thanks for the response, but "been there, done that". I am having several
problems with different types of configurations when trying to get XP SP2 to
recognize both enclosures at the same time. I have 2 firewire ports on my
laptop. If I connect an enclosure to each port, the hard drive in only 1
enclosure is recognized. This problem was reported with XP SP1. The
problem was supposed to have been corrected with XP SP2. It appears the
problem still exists. XP will not recognize several firewire devices at the
same time when those devices are similar. I have read numerous articles in
forums and they mostly talk about MAC computers. There does not seem to be
a problem on MAC computers.

If anyone has experienced this problem and has come up with a resolution, I
would appreciate any help you can offer me.

TIA
