IE7 on New Laptop Insanely Slow yet Firefox is Fast

On my new new laptop, something has hobbled IE7. When I type in a text box,
I have to wait for the characters to show. Loading pages or closing windows
is slow. It feels like I'm on dialup at times.

Yet, running Firefox from a U3 platform on a flash drive is very fast. Both
browsers ran fast on my XP machine. Both machines have 1GB RAM.

Any ideas?

Thank you.

I am replying to my own message.

The problem is now fixed and IE7 is running fast.

My actions were as follows:

I deleted an extra network connection that I apparently made by mistake. At
that point IE would not start. When I clicked to allow it to find a
solution, the error window closed with no action taken.

After googling for a solution, I found that one person fixed the same
problem by repairing or uninstalling Omnipage.

I removed Omnipage and now all is well :) Other people found other
solutions so the problem is not unique to Omnipage.
