IE60 :: no source virew

For my web development thingies I check my results in Internet Explorer too.
But recently I have discovered a remarkable phenomenon: whenever I want to
view the source of my html page, IE is unable to find the proper application
to do so. In the IE options, Notepad is clearly marked as the editor for html
pages; whenever I double click a TXT file, Windows will open Notepad without
hesitation, so Notepad IS available. But IE apparently has lost its clues.
In stead of activating Notepad, it shows the root of my C-disk in a Explorer
window, but without any clue as to what I should do. Whether I call for a
source view from the context menu or from the main View menu. Another
remarkable thing: the option Edit in the browsers File menu, is greyed out,
so not available.
I have uninstalled IE and re-installed it again, but to no avail.

Anyone any suggestions?

Hi,
First, clear the IE cache. IE> Tools> Internet Options> General> Delete
files (and delete offline content when that dialog pops up) It's often
recommended that the TIF folder be kept at about 50 MB (Settings.)

If you have a shortcut to Notepad.exe on the desktop, rename it.

It's been reported that Quick View Plus can cause this. The fix for that is
at http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/774/

Additional information at

Hope this helps,

Your direct answer did not help.
But I dared to take a look in the registry, and found the item for the IE
viewer to be empty.
As per the instructions on the referred site, I filled it with a reference
to Notepad, and hey presto, it works again.
I'll browse my brain memory to try and find out how it came to be empty.
Thx
