IE6 with Norton Anti-Virus, and Windows Update

Some time ago, all of my registry keys under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer got
deleted, and IE seemed to cease to function. I don't use
IE, or really even like it, but I need it to run both
Norton Anti-Virus and Windows Update. Now, I have tried
everything under Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 318378,
with the exception of reinstalling Windows XP, which I
don't want to do. After that, my registry keys have
reappeared, but NAV still doesn't work, requiring
"Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 or greater", even though
IE does seem to work now, but the Windows Update site
appears as a blank screen. Whenever I do try to run the
IE6 Setup, It downloads the browser, but then refuses to
install it, saying that it has not passed some Windows Logo
check. Can anyone help me?

If you are running XP and updated to SP2, uninstall it -- it's full of bugs.
There's a long list of things that won't work with SP2 on M$ site. Most
commonly is people can't connect to the Internet anymore with IE. So
something has definitely affected IE and maybe that's why you have your
problem.
