IE6 will not Open Certain Secure Webpages

G

Guest

When I try to open a certain secure webpage, it takes forever to open, and
when it does, the page is blank, I get the default message that the Page is
Not Available. I have checked all my security settings on the
Options/Advanced tab. Operating Win98SE, Pent III. I called the particular
website techs and they informed me there were no problems with the website.
I can access all other secure websites, except this one. Who can I turn
to....

Hi G :)

If you can access all other secure websites except one, then you might take
a look at the Host file and see if there is something there that is blocking
your ability to access this one site. Try the following and see if it
helps:

Go to the following and open with Notepad,
C:\WINDOWS\hosts (the one with no extension, not the .SAM one)
then delete any listing reference for the site you are trying to open.
Then Save and close.

also.............

Make sure your cookies are turned on. Open IE>Tools>Internet Options>Privacy
tab> Advanced tab>put in the checks in both boxes click
Apply/OK and close.

and...

Cannot access just one site

If you have Zone Alarm, you might also check the Trusted area there too:

Also, if you have any 3rd party toolbars such as Google or Yahoo, or Yahoo
Companion, disable them.

If you have SpyBot or other 3rd party programs that have Security blocking,
check the blocked lists to be sure the site you want is in the list. If so,
delete it, or give the OK. If you have McAfee or Norton that may block some
Secure sites, check to be sure it is not in the blocked list.

Also, if the site has ActiveX, if the security level is set to high then it
will be blocking ActiveX
controls: Set the security level to Medium.

And if you have McAfee:

Disable the McAfee ActiveX controls Applet filters in the Internet Filter
window when you select Customize your VShield settings

"Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this
page. As a result pages may not display correctly."
http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/acxen.htm
or
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN;Q319585&LN=EN
to allow ActiveX to be allow to be installed on your computer.

Hope this helps.

Hi Jan. Thanks fr your response. I found two host files, both .SAM. I
followed all your other instructions, all to no avail. I run AdAware. Spybot
and AVG every day. there are always "Tracking Cookies" on the AdAware Scan,
the Spybot and AVG Scans are clear. Any other suggestions? :)
