IE6 no longer makes mouse click sounds

Running XP pro and IE6. When browsing, each time I
clicked on a link in my browser I could hear a click
sound coming through my speakers indicating the link had
been clicked on. This sound has mysteriously disappeared
today. The only installs I have done in the past 3 months
has been MSN Messenger 6.0 yesterday and a Windows patch
for modem driver. But the clicking sound in my browser
was working fine afterwards the rest of the day yesterday
and this morning until this evening when it quit. I've
went into IE 6, Options, Advanced, Multimedia and have
play sounds in web pages enabled. I'm not sure if this is
what controls this mouse click sound, I assume not. The
sound has disappeared in the past once before around 5
months ago only to magically reappear a few days later.
What gives? Does anyone know what's going on with this
and if this points to a problem? How do I control this?

That should be set in control panel \ sounds and audio\ sounds -
probably the navigation area, located fairly far down the list. I seem
to recall a popping sound being part of a win98 extras download some
time ago, didn't care for it myself.
