IE6 Browser window opening SLOWLY

No doubt this has come up before, but I'm new to newsgroups so I don't know
how to search the archives yet ...

Here's my problem .. I'm using XP Pro .. whenever (even after a cold boot) I
start a new browser windowusing IE6 SP2, it takes about 35 secs. before the
browser window will open .. the browser itself works fine after that (and
can launch new browser windows whilw surfing in a flash) .. anyone
encountered this one yet ?

btw, Spyware Doctor tells me no malware is present, as does Ad-Aware SE
Personal v1.06 (although the latter did find and delete 8/8 suspected
malware infections) .. however, problem persists after cold re-boot

What do you have your home page set to?

[[Tip: No Home Page - Right Click Internet Explorer
Shortcut/Properties/Shortcut Tab. Place this In the target field:
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE" –nohome ]]

[[Tip: Speed up Internet Explorer - Find your IE icon and right click on
it. Select properties and then click on the Shortcut tab. In the Target line
at the very end, add -nohome to get a speed boost. ]]

Or...
IE | Tools | Internet Options | General tab |
Use Blank button | Click Apply | Click OK

Use Blank button
[[Specifies that your home page will be a blank HTML page.
The home page is the page you see each time you start Internet Explorer. You
can return to it at any time by clicking the Home button on the toolbar. ]]

about:blank will be the home page.
