IE6 and "TV Media"

We have a P4 running WinXP home.

We were having speed issues, and ran Spybot and Symantec Corporate AV v9,
and have removed all detected issues...all spyware, Symantec scanned clean.

I have noticed a "TV Media" folder being created everytime I start IE6, not
when we connect to the internet, not when we check e-mail with Outlook
Express, only when IE6 is started.

I assume starting IE is initiating a download of these files. If I delete
the folder when it is first created, it does not reappear until after we
restart IE the next time.

We have scanned for spyware and viruses...it comes back clean. I have
deleted all Temporary Internet Files, as well as the contents of the Temp
folder. I have also deleted the entire contents of the Downloaded Programs
folder. We have also gone into the Registry and removed all references to
TVMedia and its affiliated DLLs, including JEIRED.DLL

I am unsure, outside of starting IE, what is triggering the download and
install of TV Media. We have scoured the search results on Yahoo and Google
to no avail. The only thing we have not done is reinstall IE, which maybe
the solution.

I just want to know how to stop TV Media from installing everytime I start
IE.

Hi :)

TV Media is still somewhere on your system, and may not be detected by
SpyBot or your anti-virus. I suggest that you follow the information
below. :

You may have a hijacker, malware, spyware or parasites on your system
causing this problem. Thus, in addition to running your updated anti-virus
program, you should do the following to be sure none of these are present on
your system. Although you may have already run one or more of the programs,
please do so again according to the instructions below. Some variants of
malware can replicate themselves over and over if not removed properly.
Please follow all instructions carefully to be sure your system is
thoroughly cleaned:

Download, install, immediately update the definitions, and then run AdAware
SE

THEN.........

Go to:

and download HiJackThis to the new folder. Unzip to a folder other than your
Desktop or the Temp folder, doubleclick HiJackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log"
button. Press that, save the log some place you remember where it is.
Most of what it lists will be harmless or even required, so DO NOT fix
anything yet.

Open the copy of your log in NotePad and make a copy. Then you can go to one
of the following to post your log:

You will need to register to open a new thread to post you log. It is free,
and no one will Spam you, it is one of many that provides this service. Once
registered, go to the HiJackThis section on the forum list and click to
open. Then start a new post and post your log. The experts there will
analyze the log and report back the results. Please allow at least a few
hours or a days time for a response, depending on when you post the log

Remember, you must return to the HJT site to get your answer. It is a good
idea to click the "Notify" box so that you will get an electronic
notification by e-mail to let you know when a response has been posted.

You might also want to get Art's updater, SYS-UP.Zip, here for future

(If you download and use the updater from the beginning, it will
automatically handle downloading the other files. Place them in a dedicated
folder after appropriate unzipping, and then run. This scan may take a long
time, as Sysclean is VERY extensive and thorough

and......

NOTE: If you can not download these programs from the Internet, if your PC
has CD read capabilities, go to another computer with CD-ROM burning
capabilities. Create a folder on the hard drive of the other computer called
HOLD, download the programs to that folder, then burn that folder to a CD.
Copy the HOLD folder to your HD and then install the programs from there
and run them. After you have IE access again, update all programs where
possible to get the latest definitions and run them again in Safe Mode to be
sure there are no lingering items on the system.

If these steps do not resolve your problem, please post back to this thread
with the details and any error messages.
