properly:

Windows XP Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - April 2006 (KB890830)
Wednesday, 12 April
Windows XP Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer for Windows XP
(KB912812) Wednesday, 12 April 2006

(KB911565) Wednesday, 12 April 2006
Windows XP Cumulative Security Update for Outlook Express for Windows XP

The url typed into the address bar does not refresh to the web page and also
the 'drop down' url history button causes an hourglass loop.

Help Please!!

Yes, this apparently was introduced with one of the updates, most
probably KB911565. Anxious myself to know if and when a fix will be
available.

I have the same issue, I installed the patches while running ie7 beta2 and
now the only way to use the address bar is to enter the fully qualified url.
I uninstalled ie7 and the same issue still exists with ie6. I have looked in
the registry and the prefix and default prefixes still indicate http:// and
yet it doesn't work. I would love to fix this without formatting the drive
and starting over, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have found the culprit on my machine. After re-imaging my machine back to
new I booted it up in my docking station and it recognized my scanner. I
installed the drivers and software for my HP 4600 scanner and boom, IE
address bar required the HTTP:// again. I uninstalled the scanner softward
and it is back to normal. I have since installed the security patches on
both my home machines and all is well here (since I don't have the same
scanner as I do at work).

Hope this helps.
