If you are referring to ActiveX, there is an ActiveX plugin for Firefox,
though of course this simply browsing less safe.

Firefox 1.1 is supposed to have updates via patches rather than by full
downloads.

The reason IE is not as secure is that it is number 1 in the browser market
and is from Microsoft so cyber-criminals like to target anything from
Microsoft. This is the reason I connect to the Internet only with a wired
LinkSyS Router and do not use Bluetooth Technology because it can easily be
hacked with an add-on to a PDA. (Personnel Digital Assistand) This is yet
another reason I use PALM Technology and not Microsoft Technology for my PDA.
It is less likely to be hacked. Finally, practice safe browsing and limit
services in XP PRO. and use third-party technology to make 98SE secure as
well as downloading all critical updates from Microsoft. Further, reading
this newsgroup in plain text is wise as well as having more than one e-mail
account for when someone tries to steal your identity. It has been attempted
to me in 5 cases just this year. If you download SpywareBlaster from
Majorgeeks web-site you will see that IE has several thousand items that the
program protects the user from in cyber-space. Mozilla Firefox also has
things blocked in SpywareBlaster but it is only several hundred items and the
items are all spyware cookies and nothing else. Furthermore, Mozilla Firefox
allows 256 bit encryption which IE SP1 only allows 128 bit encryption which
is no longer enough for serious banking requirements and overall general
safety. Hopefully, the enccryption level will soon rise to 700+ bit
encryption to make access even harder for cyber-criminals.

Actually, Firefox does have scripting. Both MSIE and Firefox also run
JavaScript, unless the user chooses to disable JS.

Closed source need not be less secure than open source. The bigger problem
with MSFT is lack of competition. As matters currently stand, MSFT seems
more interested in trying to keep Firefox from spreading than in serious
work on revamping MSIE to be more secure.

This has zero to do with vulnerabilities. The means by which a software
vendor offers fixes to problems is irrelevant to the susceptibility of the
software to exploit.

BTW, I am not a big fan of MSIE; indeed, I prefer to use Firefox. It is
easier to lock down against malicious actions. But I don't think that you
picked the best points of comparison to show why Firefox is better than
MSIE. The ease of making sane configuration choices in Firefox, as compared
with MSIE, is my reason to prefer Firefox.
