IE slow to open initial or new windows

W

Wowbagger

IE 6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2.030422-1633

XP Professional.

Within the last couple of days MSIE has become extremely slow to open (30
seconds) when clicking on the blue e. CTRL+N to open a new window also
results in a 30 second delay before the window is ready. Browsing speed is
normal once the window is open. My default page is blank.

No new software was insalled. A search for spyware/malware turned up
nothing. As the window is up task manager shows nothing unusual. I used
perfmon to watch a few counters (memory, pagefiles, disk access, CPU) and
saw no spikes or unusual activity - but I didn't check every counter as I'm
not sure which ones I should check.

I've emptied the cache, defragmented the drive and checked for errors but
have had no success. No other applications are affected.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

First eliminate any scumware.
CAUTION!!!!! Before you try to remove spyware using any of these programs ,
download a copy of LSPFIX from any of the following sites:
http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
(if your OS is Win2k or XP) The process of removing certain malware may kill
your internet connection. If this should occur, this program, LSPFIX, will
enable you to regain your connection.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
than just those two programs. CWShredder is also available here:
