IE Popping Up "Offline" Message (Broadband) Randomly

In the past few days, IE has begun to sometimes tell me, when I click in a
browser to go to a new page, that there is no connection and to choose "Work
Offline" or "Try Again". I'm connected 24/7 via broadband (wireless) and
have no actual connection problems. I think this message usually happens
when I haven't changed the page in the browser for a couple minutes, but it
doesn't do it all the time when I haven't changed pages, so it is still
pretty random.

It is getting annoying to have to keep clicking "Try Again", which then
causes it to work, whenever the alert comes up.

I haven't changed any of my settings or upgraded to evil version 7 (grin).
It just started doing this all of a sudden. This computer is a little over
one year old.

Stop any PPPoE service (Enternet Access Manager/WINPoet, etc.).

In the registry check this key -

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WebCheck

And check that these two *String* keys are set to auto:
"LoadSens"="auto"
"LoadLCE"="auto"
Create them if necessary.
Reboot.

Make sure there's not "idle disconnect" setting in your connection manager
software.

Other possible fixes, if no joy with the above:

Start... Settings... Network Connections, right-click "Local Area
Connection", choose properties and then uncheck "Notify me when this
connection has limited or no connectivity"

In IE go to Tools...Internet Options...Connections tab...Lan settings,
uncheck "automatically detect settings".

My registry keys were fine, I just use Windows for my connection (I like to
see the blinking computer when it transmits data), I already have the notify
for little/no connection box checked (never get a notification when the work
offline/try again alert happens), so the only thing I could do was uncheck
the LAN setting auto detect. I'll let you know what happens.

That didn't work, either, so I tried other things. Turns out, it was the new
Upromise savings toolbar causing not only this problem but also slower
browsing (I didn't notice it so much when it slowed down, but did notice it
speed up after I uninstalled it). I didn't have the toolbar in my browser,
but it was still running, so I uninstalled the program. Guess I will have to
complain to them about it!

I'm having the very same problem, and it started on the same day. What is
this "Upromise savings toolbar", and how do I find it?

If you have it, you would know that you have it on your computer - you'd have
to be a member of Upromise and have purposely downloaded the toolbar onto
your computer and then purposely have installed it. If you share your
computer with somebody else and they are an Upromise member, they may have
downloaded it. You'd see the icon for it as the last icon in your browser on
the line back/forward/stop/refresh/etc. are on. You also may see the toolbar
itself either to the side of or below the address bar. The problems happen
even if the toolbar is hidden.
