Hi All

Whenever I click a link outside of IE (in an email or other application) it
opens up IE fine but does not go to the speicfied path, it just opens my set
homepage. Does any one ahve any idea what setting i need to enable or disable
to stop this. Its very frustrating.

Open Explorer, go under the Tools -> Folder Options -> File Types menu.
Find the URL association. Click Advanced and see the command line
defined for the Open action. Does it contain a %1 at the end? When I
go to edit mine (but don't change anything), it has:

rundll32.exe shdocvw.dll,OpenURL %l

This is exactly what is in my settings...

Any suggestions?

After rereading your post, I see that the problem isn't with Internet
Explorer despite you posting to that newsgroup. The problem is with
Outlook (or whatever are those "other applications", assuming there are
any) in handling URL links. You never did specify WHAT type of link on
which you were clicking. If it was an .html link, do the same mentioned
above but look under the "open" action for the HTML association. Mine
says:

Application used to perform action:
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" %1

DDE:
"%1",,-1,0,,,,

Application:
IExplore

DDE application not running:
*
Topic:
WWW_OpenURLNewWindow

If it was a mailto link with which you are having problems, that's a
different setup than for other type of links. You didn't mention WHAT
type of link that you having problems with. As a last ditch option, and
depending on which OS you are using (also never mentioned), under
Windows XP you can use Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System
Tools -> Set Program Access and Defaults and use the drop-down chevron
to see the option within a setup category.
