IE locks with message "Contains commands for working with the ..."

I have copied the following from another forum - he describes perfectly what
i have been experiencing for over 6 months now and it is finally driving me
nuts...

"I hope someone has a suggestion/solution to this irritating problem. Before
posting
this message I searched the web for similar issues and applied what I could
from
what was suggested (re-installing IE, disabling add-ons, ...) but to no
avail.

The problem occurs only in IE (not Firefox) and exhibits itself randomly (it
seems):
whenever I click in the address bar or sometimes on some links within the
page
I get this message in the status bar at the bottom of the page:

"Contains commands for working with the selected items"

Sometimes repeated clicks help get out of this lock, sometimes I have to
restart
IE. In some case closing IE window from the "x" button doesn't work as I get
the same message. I have to close it through the File --> Exit menu.

For those who had this problem and managed to solve it your help will
be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.......Youssef"

I have also used control/click with sporadic success as a workaround but
nothing seems to fully resolve this problem. Help me - this is really
annoying!

thank you

Lennie

Always state your full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3) and IE version
(e.g., IE7) when posting to this newsgroup, please.

Assuming you've allowed the IE window to load completely, the behavior could
be caused by a "sticky" ALT key.

Hmmm. Seems you already know the best browser to use...
