Recently had major problems with using Internet Explorer.
It's been impossible to access various websites using IE.
Thinking of switching to Opera full time.
Anyone got any views on Opera & how good it is.
I've used Opera on & off for about a year, but the switch would be full time!

I actually like Opera, I use it myself part time.

And oddly enough I don't like Firefox/Mozilla, just couldn't get on with it.

But, I also use IE7 mostly.

Now, I know this flies in the face of most geeks' opinions and I may attract accusations of newbiness and nerdiness, but I do know what I like.

And I won't let the opinon of the herd sway me.

So, yes, why not use Opera? It's free and it's good, as far as I'm concerned.

Which websites are you having problems accessing with IE, as it sounds like the problem might not be with IE itself (does FF/Opera work ok?).

I also use IE7 primarily, but I do sometimes FF when I feel like doing something wild  I like it, I just prefer IE7... but I feel I should like FF more ;)

I used Opera a few years ago and thought it was OK, but I've not touched it for a while so can't comment on that.

Cant get on youtube, itv.com, channel4.com & a few news sites.
No idea why, but for some reason my pc will not let me view them.
Used Opera yesteday for most of the day & it worked fine.
Would like to find out why IE is not allowing me access though.

I use IE7 specifically for Channel 4, ITV.com etc., so I wonder whether it is something to do with your browser settings? I know you've probably checked them all out, but is there any possibility that Parental Controls have somehow kicked-in, (just a "for instance")? Could you view those websites previously?

Hi TC, parental controls are disabled.
It's strange that no setting has been chaged, one day it worked, next it did not.
Thats the main reason i'm watching youtube & bbc iplayer now in Opera.
No trouble what so ever, everything loads first time & no pauses in programs.

BUT i would like to find out what has gone wrong for further reference.:thumb:

Firefox for the win baby! :D

Nah, using Firefox is like stepping in dog poo.

That's still warm.

Wearing flip flops.

Which by most people's reckoning is probably not good

Well heres a vote for Opera

Its my browser of choice - If i ever have to use IE when I'm out and about it feels really clunky

I love my mouse gestures - MS needs to get with the program and add them to IE

(hmm just done a quick browse and it looks like there are some 3rd party plugins for IE mouse gestures - still I'm sticking to Opera)

I completely agree Feckit, after a number of tabs have been opened it crashes!!

Have you come accross this problem ?

I have also noticed this on Firefox when having lots of tabs open its very annoying when you are in the middle of doing something and it crashes.

When working in IT all the users pc's had IE on them.
How ever all of us Techies used Firefox or Opera as it was more stable.
Probably 10-15% of daily calls were related to a problem with IE!

That doesn't surprise me lol, I use Slimbrowser at work. I'm Beta testing IE 8 at the moment, and there is a feature on there that allows the user to restore the tabs that have been lost, once IE has crashed - its very handy :)
