IE Home Page Takeover

IE8
A website has taken over the home page.
I went into Internet Options and saw that the home page was correct
(what I wanted).
I changed the home page to a different acceptable one and restarted IE.
Delete Browser history is checked and IE restarted several times but
still have the unwanted home page.
I do no see any unexpected addons.
I manually entered the desired home pages and they showed up so they
are there.
The unwanted home page is one I visit from time to time and is not a
known problem. It is a forum that I view onece in a while. But it has
never stuck as a home page before.

Besides the suggestion about malware (which is not a site but software
RUNNING on your computer), another possibility is that you have security
software that locks in the home page for your web browser. For example,
WinPatrol will alert you when the home page is changed (by you, by
malware, by whatever) and let you opt to allow or block the change.
Other security programs simply lock in the home page without any alerts.
You have to disable the home page lock in the security software, change
your home page, and reenable the home page lock in the security
software.

Delete ALL your cookies including Flash Cookies (they are hidden).

Install Startup Control Panel and see what is in startup.

Check for a proxy in your internet settings.
