IE Home page problems

Help would be appreciated for a non-teckie newbe. When I open my IE, my
default page briefly opens then changes to Security Centre - Microsoft
Internet Explorer. This page tells me that my system is under attack and I
need to download protection. I've tried changing back to my default home
page but the above keeps happening. I've ran an anti virus check which tells
me that I had a trojan and other problems but they've all been deleted
successfully.
My questions are: what is going on and what can I do.
Many thanks

your browser got hijacked....
this is a common occurance.

i wouldn;t download any
so called protection because
it is a trojan that wants you
to bring onto your system.
microsoft doesnt promote any
of its products like this. so it
is a phoney web page that
looks like an office ms site.

There are a multitude
of anti virals and it seems
that yours are not particularly
designed for the above.

I think that the ms defender
has been designed with anti hijacking
of its browser. it is free at
microsoft.com

keep in mind that since you already
have antivirals installed, you may
want to temporarily disable them in
order to give your pc more power when
running defender. and it might be better
to run it in safe mode instead of normal mode.

if defender doesn't fix the problem,
try to uninstall the ie or run another
antiviral. I think there is somekind
of antiviral with hijackthis in its name.
this might help you out too.

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.

Thanks for the replies.
Tried 2 anti hijack programs, they identified it as Win32Zlob.aus but they
couldn't get access to it to delete it. A third program advised me to turn
off System Restore then delete it. This worked a treat and everything is
back to normal. So once again thanks a lot.
