IE hijacked

I had the same problem, on two different machines. Your
home page is continually hi-jacked. In my case, this was
caused by two adware/spyware programs, that are downloaded
and installed against the user's knowledge.

One machine was Win2k Pro SP4, the other XP Pro SP1. The
programs are ususally called Home Search Assistant and
Shopping Wizard and can be found in the Add/Remove
Programs control panel. I ran MS AntiSypware, Lavasoft
Adaware and Spybot. None of them recognized the problem.

There are methods to manually remove. However, I upgraded
my XP machine to SP2, and then could disable these
programs which rely on an IE helper. In my case, this was
called crox32.dll (some research suggests that this
spyware uses random names). You can disable in Tools >
Internet Options > Programs > Manage Add Ons.

I have yet to find an easy solution to my Win2K machine. I
intend to keep researching this.

If anyone has any information on who wrote and distributed
these programs, let me know. I'd like to start an action
against these people. This type of software is illegal.
