IE all messed up!

I had written some time back and am still having the same problems. My IE in
Win 98 SE is all messed up. My comp. caught a virus and I lost bits and
pieces of IE. Now no website shows up in IE, no images on my computer, no
programs that use IE work, nothing. How can I install IE again and start from
scratch? Would I have to uninstall Win 98 SE and reinstall everything?? Thanks

How to Reinstall or Repair Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in Windows
XP

Make sure your anti-virus is turned off.

The section
Windows XP and Windows XP SP1: Edit the registry and install Internet
Explorer 6
works on earlier versions of Windows.

I am experiencing similar difficulties but they are self-inflicted. I
disabled IE and now want to restore it. Will the remedy below (regedit) help?
I am presently unable to download SP2 (I'm using Firefox), although Version
20040803.231319 is installed but IE won't run (I just get flashing IP
addresses in the bar at the bottom of the screen....

Will this work with Windows 98 SE? Outlook isn't showing up on my computer,
IE repair utility isn't showing. I have so many files messed up that has to
do with Internet Explorer.
Thanks

Hi,
I have tried everything and no good! I tried the "Extract one file from the
Inst Disk" - Type in "oleaut32.dll" etc... It keeps telling me; "The file was
not found . Verify that you have selected the correct "Restore From" location
and try again.

I have bits and pcs of IE, that's all. NONE of my programs that use IE works
correctly. My INternet is soooo slow. Whay else can I do????
Thanks

What does this mean exactly?

Provided you have the correct version of setupwbv.dll you don't need
to be able to see the Repair option in Add/Remove Programs.

E.g. Run... (press Win-R and enter:)

rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE6Maintenance

If your "files are messed up" this will create a report in Fix IE Log.txt
to give you more clues about that.

Good luck

This is not working, everyone is trying to help and thank you, but nothing
seems to work. I tried the winint thing, I tried the oleaut32.dll thing,
everything... I either get told that file is not found or a part of the file
needed can't be found. I would like to uninstal all versions of IE on my
computer and start from scratch with IE. Can this be done? I would love to be
able to extract files from my Inst. Disc and repair everything but it will
not work, it tells me the file was not found. (ie; oleaut32.dll)

This is not working,
....

Have you missed the point? Because of your (minimal) symptom description
I don't expect it to "work". If that procedure doesn't result in a reboot
the report is a diagnostic which could give you a *clue* (in more specific terms)
about what is wrong.

More importantly you still aren't providing anyone any detailed feedback.
Remember, your words have to substitute for what our eyes might notice.
