IE 8

Nadia

HI,

I keep on getting a Pop Up Box offering me IE 8. I have asked some people
about it and was told not to install it. They have had trouble with IE 8.
They say it freezes and they can't get out of what they are in. These people
do not have Vista. I have Vista. Do you see any problems with IE 8 and
Vista freezing? Do you think I should install it?

Thanks,
Nadia

Most people do not have a problem with IE8. I don't.
I'd say go ahead and install it. If a problem develops after installing
IE8, it is easily uninstalled.

hi Nadia,

I use IE8 with vista, and the services that it offers is excellent, keeping
in mind the security features I would say go ahead and install it, only be
careful with your browser tools such as google etc since they cause majority
of the problems, yeah it dose freezes some times usually when one changes
tab suddenly when the other is contacting the internet and downloading the
page, in such a case one needs to just leave it that way for some time, if a
messages arise saying close program, don't do it. just wait for a while,
thats it.

for downloading and installing go to the Microsoft website and download it
from there, radar then from any other link.

IE8 features more enhanced security than IE7. That's why it's offered by
Windows Update.

Only you can decide if you like IE8. If not, it can be uninstalled (cf.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/957700).

No-charge support for Internet Explorer 8 installation, set-up and usage
(only) is available via the phone based on your locale through 31 December
2009. Customers must be running Windows XP or Windows Vista in a non-domain
environment.
=> US & CA Residents: 1-866-234-6020
=> Other locales: https://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?&prid=13043

My personal recommendations include:

=> Install IE8 manually, not via Windows Update/Automatic Updates!! =>
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/worldwide-sites.aspx

NB: Save the installer to your desktop, do not Run it. When you're prepared
to install IE8, double-click on the saved file.

NB: Save the installer to your desktop, do not Run it. When you're prepared
to install IE8, right-click on the saved file and select "Run as
Administator.

=> Uninstall all third-party toolbars (e.g., Google; Yahoo; Windows Live)
and third-party Windows Themes before installing IE8.

=> Close all open applications (i.e., anything with a taskbar icon) before
installing or uninstalling IE8.

=> I would strongly recommend disabling your anti-virus application and any
anti-spyware application's "system protections" (other than Defender's)
before installing (or uninstalling) an IE upgrade. If you're running a
third-party firewall, I would recommend disabling it and then enabling the
Windows Firewall before installing (or uninstalling) an IE upgrade.

=> Create a Restore Point manually before installing IE8. [Do NOT use
System Restore to remove/uninstall IE8; instead, see
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/957700. Then use the Restore Point prior to
reinstalling IE8 per these recommendations. Norton users will need to see
http://bertk.mvps.org/html/symantecdoc1.html.]

=> Reboot twice after installing or uninstalling IE8, then check-in at
Windows Update and install any critical security updates offered.

=> For best chance of success with IE8, make certain that your anti-virus
application, any anti-spyware applications (other than Defender), and your
third-party firewall (if any) are supported in IE8 Final before you decide
install it.

You should create a new thread for new questions such as this. You should
also use an IE 8 newsgroup, as Robear Dyer (PA Bear) indicated.

IE 8 works great for me. Other software (such as Acrobat, Flash or Sun Java
that have all had problems in the past) could cause problems that people
blame IE for.

Hi Gary,

I'll try it. Thanks.
