IE 7 and Proxy

In a corporate environment where multiple proxies are available. Going to
internet options and entering the ip address of the proxy each time is a
pain. IE 7 needs a better proxy management interface and a menu that lets us
switch between proxies easily. or even better, have command line parameters
when we can create custom shortcut. "iexplorer.exe \p 127.0.0.1:8540"

But surely if its an important issue which needs to be address, then you
would just develop a programe which you could switch proxy and it
automatically updates into the Internet Explroer proxy. But I do agree with
you it would be nice to see a Proxy Management syste,

Hmmm... Great Idea. But, Their must be a good enough reason for why
Microsoft hasn't thought about developing a Proxy Center/Management like
they have with Synz Center, Mobiel Center, Welcome Center...

That doesnt give the user/client the ability to change proxys, since it uses
the Proxy from the ISA Server in order to connect to the internet.

I couldn't agree more with this issue, but I don't think have a quick link
is the fix, if you do want a shortcut to fix it I am sure this could be
done, I can think of 2 ways (I could probs think of loads more, but .....
this will get you going) :

Way 1,
point your IE at proxy called MAGICPROXY
write a batch program the edits the host file to point MAGICPROXY at your
PROXY

Way 2,
work out what part of the reg IE uses for its proxy settings, this wont be
to hard to find.
Create a .REG file and import it.

As computers become more mobile, its a bigger issue, you should be able to
setup proxy based on your subnet , the NIC that is being or the wireless
access point. Also you should have a list of preferred proxy's, like you do
with DNS.


A good example, when I am connected to my LAN I use a proxy server called,
proxy, when I go mobile, e.g. work in a hotel room, I use wireless and I
have the change my proxy settings, when I got back to work, I change them
again .

Vista improves the mobile world, but not on all fronts.

I may send this to my vista contact, see what they say.

You should be checking on what access you have via your MSDN
subscription online.

Us MSDN subscribers can report feedback/bugs.

Double click the big blue icon that is on the Vista desktop by default
('Report feedback' I think, not on Vista right now) and follow the
instructions.

The only thing we can't do is get feedback on the stuff we report.

And yes, we should get Office 2007 too.
