IE/6

Hi Jerry,
The problem is with my daughter's computer and I've just
returned after an unsuccessfull session, problem solving. I downloaded a copy
of Netscape in the hope that if IE/6 was the problem a different browser
would work - it didn't.
The computer in question has just had XP installed, with SP2
included. We cannot even get a dial up connection to work now. All firewalls
are either uninstalled or switched off.
I've looked in the browser settings but have'nt found anything to
change that would work.
It's most frustrating because the machine is running really well and
the wanadoo icon indicates that there is a connection but we only get the
server cannot be found page.

Sad to hear, Pam. Is there any chance that wanadoo is fubar? If you
have details of another connection, I would give that a try. I know
that the firewall can cause problems, I had someone at work whose
firewall was keeping them off our network; but if you say there are
off, I'm not sure what to suggest. 'Sorry.

Hi Don,
Many thanks for the suggestions. Will try this afternoon. I did
have problems removing Zone Alarm before installing XP - uninstall seemed to
remove the programme but it kept reappearing on start up. The registry could
well have become corrupted.

Hi,
First, the ISP provided information regarding settings, right? Internet
Options> Connections> LAN (and other) settings?

Next, try this command from Start> Run
netsh winsock reset [Enter]

If unsuccessful with that, try this winsock repair tool:
WinsockXP Fix- WinXP http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
Also, with instructions, at http://www.iup.edu/house/resnet/winfix.shtm

Hope this helps,
Don
