IE 6 won't open pdfs on hard drive but will on Internet / Intranet.

Something weird here.

If I try to open a pdf that exists on my hard drive with Internet Explorer I
get the "To protect your security, Internet Explorer has restricted this
file from showing active content..." message. I can click the "Allow
Blocked Content" it will then open.

If I copy the pdf to a shared folder on a PC on our network it opens with no
problem.

If I try to open a pdf say from a Google link..no problem.

Any ideas ?

Frank.

PS: I already searched this group for PDF topics but all existing messages
are no longer on the server.

Hi Frank :)

Try the following and see if it helps:

Set your Security to Med.

and .....

Allow active content to run in files on My Computer - Windows XP Service
Pack 2:

Troubleshooting problems opening PDF files in Internet Explorer window:

Make sure the correct program association is set for the PDF files and the
program they are to be opened with is correct:

Open Windows Explorer (not IE), navigate to one of the PDF files and
highlight it, right click on the mouse and select "Open with.." A list of
programs should be displayed and see if the Adobe Reader is in the list. If
so, select it and open the file. If not, click on Choose program, or
whatever selection is there for you to use to select another program and
then scroll down the list to the Acrobat reader you want to use, highlight
it an then check the Always use this selected program to open this kind of
file, or in some versions, click the Change button.

If still no joy, try upgrading or reinstalling your Adobe Reader.

Hope this helps :)

Thanks for the tips.

I think the problem is with Adobe version 6 because I downloaded Adobe
Reader 7.0 and that solved the problem.
