IE 6 Service pack

C

Confused

Every day I get a critical update file, it is IE 6 Service
pack, KB832894. Every day I download it, I guess it never
takes, I have checked my download history, and it shows
successful every time, I restart my computer everytime,
still every day it comes back. What to do?

What to do?

Go to the associated Security bulletin.
(There is a link to it from the KB article.)
Expand the link
[+] Security Update Information
and within that the appropriate link for your OS and version of IE
(most likely the first one)
[+] Internet Explorer 6 SP1 for Windows...

Then check each module that was supposed to be updated
with the versions that you actually have active. Use msinfo32
if you have it, so you're sure that you are getting the version
information for the modules which are being loaded.

A common reason for any discrepancies found by such a check
is not disabling any security packages before performing an update.
Note that in the case of a update which requires a restart, "stopping"
an interfering program (such as a virus scanner) may not be sufficient,
since it is during the reboot that the actual transfer of some updated
modules occurs. E.g. you might have to *disable* your virus scanner
to prevent it from starting automatically during the reboot and interfering
then.
