Problem:
Whenever I open IE 6 it tries to upload my home page or
any other page and then quits. When homepage is blank it
opens without problem. Also when I upload www.msn.com it
uploads without problem, but if I click on anything on this
page IE 6 shuts down. Netscape and Opera browsers which I
uploaded from a sample CD after the problem with IE 6
occured work fine.
History:
IE 6 was working fine. One day I added Norton Antivirus
2004 trial version and performed a full scan which took
over five hours(!!!). Then I performed a check for
problems with Spybot Search & Destroy and put the results
in Quarantine. I also deleted some previous results from
the Quarantine which were supposelly not "affecting"
anything. Then tried to go on-line and the problem
appeared for first time. I uploaded other browsers and
tried to go on-line with them and there was no problem at
all. I consulted Microsoft support pages as well as other
sites and tried a few things, including reinstalling IE 6
and deleting Norton Antivirus 2004, that did not work. I
even tried System Restore but still nothing. Then I must
did something wrong with the registry and no browser could
connect any more, a blue error page would apppear and the
system would reboot. Hence I was forced to reinstall
Windows XP. I did that using the Upgrade mode so that I
could keep the rest of the programs. After this my system
returned to the previous state but the original problem
with IE 6 still exists. I performed a scan with AVG 7.0
Professional and found two trojan horses, downloaders,
Dyfica BC and Small.4.AT in the Temporary Internet Files
with a status Infected, Embedded Object. I tried to heal
them, delete them or quarantine them but it failed. I
cleared the temporary internet files but still nothing. I
do not know whether they are the problem but I really do
not know what else to do next. Your help is really
appreciated.
I apologise for the long message but I thought I sould
give a precise description of the problem. Thanks for your
patience and looking forward for your help.
