IE 6 - Cannot type in form fields

G

Guest

I am having strange issues with my IE 6.

Whenever I try to type into a field (eg. Search box, form fields), it will
not allow me. I have tried running windowsupdate, but that page is not
working as well. When I go to check Help > About, I get an error:96. I'm
pretty sure my whole IE is just screwed up, but my question is how do I fix
my initial issue with the fields?

any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi David :)

You don't mention what version of Windows you are using, or SP1 SP2, so I'll
try to give some general information. Try the following and see if it will
work as it may apply to your OS:

Cannot search from IE6 Address Bar

A Single Letter May Be Displayed in the Title Bar
When you run Windows Explorer or start Internet Explorer, the text in the
title bar may be displayed as a single letter (for example, an "M" or an
"E").

or
http://www.free-web-browsers.com/support/remove-mysearch.shtml

and........

Restore default Search functions:

In order to restore you default Search functions, download and run the
program below. You will have to redo any customized features you may have
added afterward.

or....................

Courtesy of Tony Klein, MS MVP:

This will restore the Windows defaults for a whole lot of Search related
registry entries.

CAUTION: BACKUP YOUR REGISTRY FIRST!

Close IE, copy the bold to Notepad, save as Search.reg (save as 'all files',
and doubleclick. Answer 'yes' when prompted to add the contents of
Search.reg to the Registry:

REGEDIT4 (Watch for the line wrap. Each one should be all on on line.)

earch"

or........

Restore Search:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/RestoreSearch2.REG
This will restore your default Search functionality. You will, however,
have to restore any custom setups you may have had before.

Download the fix - Reset Search:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads/tools/IEFIX.reg
This will restore your default Search functionality. However, if you had
any custom adjustments you have made will have to re-select them.

Hope this helps :)

Hi Don :)

When I checked earlier I found that link is no longer any good, that is why
I did not post that one. Seems most, if not all for that site no longer
work. :-(

Hi Don :)
Hi Jan,
Post your HijackThis log to...
Oh... wait... never mind <G>

Lol! You and Emily Litella.......
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/IEFAQ.htm works for me. Dunno why it won't work
for you. Actually, Ramesh does appear to be changing some links. Maybe you
just hit the site at the wrong time.

Guess you're right. I tried it right now and it is working. Sandi has been
redoing her site so now most of the previous links no longer work. I
thought she had started a new trend.....<g>

Thanks for the follow up.

Jan :)
