ICS problems

MC

I have two computers both running XP home and I have a
home network running between them. I have run the
network setup wizard and the ICS troubleshooting, but am
still unable to connect to the internet via the cliet
computer. The client is simply unable to access the
internet.

I do not have an ICF enabled.
I have checked that the IP addresses are configured
correctly.
I do not have any driver problems or hardware conflicts.
The host computer is set up for ICS.

Any ideas?

MC,

does file sharing work? What are the IP settings?

Please have a look at http://www.michna.com/kb/WxNetwork.htm.

Hans-George,

File sharing works limitedly. I can't access the host
computer's Shared Docs folder from the client or vice
versa. Everything else, however, I can access. When I
try to access shared docs, I get the message that it's not
accessible and I may not have permission to access the
file. Print sharing does work, too.

I set the host IP address at 192.168.0.1 and the subnet is
at 255.255.255.0. The client is at 192.168.02 with a
subnet of 255.255.255.0. One of the articles I read told
me to set the default gateway at with the host's IP, so
I've done that.

I didn't find anything in the site you posted that was
obviously on point. Any other ideas?

MC,

I suppose the host's IP address was set automatically, as ICS
always does this. Have you tried to set the client's IP address
and DNS settings to automatic? That's the normal and recommended
setting. Note that the ICS host acts as a DNS proxy, so no DNS
settings are required either.
