icon won't leave!

hello, all --

i've searched the forums and have seen similar Qs but not what appears to me
to be EXACTLY the same Q, but i apologize in advance if i am inadvertently
duplicating an inquiry that has already been resolved elsewhere.

somehow i have gotten two icons on my desktop for the "fonts" folder. #1
icon HAS the little arrow, and if i right-click it, i get a long menu that
includes a "create shortcut/delete/rename" pod in it. if i click on
"delete," the icon disappears.

#2 icon does NOT have the little arrow, and if i right-click it, i get a
only short menu that says "open/explore/norton security/paste/create
shortcut." in other words, there is no option for deleting the icon.

i've tried everything i can think of to make icon #2 disappear, or to pull
up the long menu when i right-click the icon, but the short menu keeps
appearing and icon #2 stubbornly clings for life to the desktop. i would be
very grateful to anyone who can enlighten me as to what i should try next.

FYI, i am on IE8, XP with SP3. i have norton internet security 2009 and am
religious about periodically scanning manually in addition to the scheduled
scans.

thank you in advance for any insights.

Download and run the small [free] Microsoft program - TweakUI.exe - 'powertoy' for
XP.

Under the 'Desktop' item you will see a list of icons and their images with
'checkboxes' next to each, that are placed there by the operating system and are not
normal shortcuts.

Some of these icons don't have an option to delete (others do have).

But in this list, the 'checkboxes' next to each enable you to uncheck [clear] the
boxes you don't want and so 'delete' that icon from the desktop.

Download the small TweakUI installation file from the link below :
