I don't know what they are called so ill try to explain.

When you right click on your desktop to bring up the
quick menu, you will see an option to Arrange Icons By
(notice the little arrow) that tells there are additional
menu choices. Well that little arrow is the icon im
talking about. I have serveral of them that have been
changed. Can someone please tell me how to change this
back to the defaults. I have tried changing the themes
which did not help.

You mean the right-pointing arrowhead for cascading menus, right? I'm not sure if that's a
bitmap/icon or a font character...

Some questions:

Is it all cascading menus or just the desktop context menu?

Have you changed any of the fonts from their system defaults?

those are directory indicators and should not be changing.
they are not icons per se.
up/down arrows will be on horizontal bars
right pointing ones on vertical listing.

Try restoring your Marlett font. Type msconfig in Start - Run and expand marlett into c:\windows\fonts.

It's known as a context menu (or less correct - right click menu) not quick menu.

It seems as if someone has changed the default value to
use the wingdings fonts. so my next question is where do
I set it back to the default, and what is the default.

My right-pointing arrowhead for cascading menus looks
like a mouse and not a arrowhead.
