Icon missing for .AI and .EPS files of Adobe Illustrator. Can't Ch

This problem has baffled many people in the Adobe Newsgroups. Apparently
there is a bug in Explorer that is keeping it from being able to correctly
associate icons to Adobe Illustrator Files with the extension .AI and .EPS.
I've tried manually changing the Icon to no avail. I've deleted and rebuilt
the filetype association from scratch. This is definitely a bug and many
Adobe users suggest simply using Adobe Bridge in place of Explorer.

To make it worse, the problem isn't just with Illustrator files, but I've
found it impossible to change the icon for HTML and HTM files. What gives?
I figured one of the best things about Microsoft Windows OS was it's
customizability.

Does anyone have any idea what's wrong and how to fix so that a message can
be posted in the Illustrator Newsgroups that will resolve the problems of
many?

Hi Tim,

For HTM/HTML files:

Thanks for your prompt response, Ramesh. Unfortunately, it didn't resolve
the issue, but I have found a solution.

If I copy down all the action information for each File Association, then
delete the icon and recreate it completely from scratch, I was able to set
the icon appropriately. Before, for some reason, I wasn't able to
successfully set the icon even after recreating the association manually, but
I guess running the little VBS script you linked, has resolved that issue.
Unfortunately, I still had to do it manually. I guess there was something up
with my registry. I'll have to look deeper to see what I can come up with.

Anyway, I have resolved the issue, though I would like to know why it is
occuring on so many peoples computers. Particularly Adobe Illustrator's AI
and EPS associations. It's rather confusing.

Tim,

Thanks for the update. I think repairing the icons (using TweakUI) after
running the VBS would have helped.
