i950 sitting for a week

It seems that if my i950 sits for a week and isn't used I have some very
slight banding. If I do a head cleaning it seems to pretty much eliminate
it. Is anyone else seeing this type of problem? As long as it doesn't get
worse to the point where head cleaning doesn't work I'm ok with an
occasional head cleaning before I print.

Canon s & i series aren't prone to a drying out problem. Banding is usually
a sign of the wrong paper and not a printhead problem. What paper are you
using? When I used some papers (Kodak, Royal Brites and Jet Print), I
experienced exactly what you describe. Using Office Depot Premium Glossy,
Ilford Galerie or Red River Ultra Pro I never have a banding problem.

I use Red River Ultra Pro. The banding is very light and hard to see. I have
printed many pictures without any problems but have slowed down recently and
after several days of not even turning it on I get the banding. Again, it
is very slight and almost unnoticeable. Head cleaning seems to take care of
it but it hasn't been happening long enough to really tell if it is going to
be a major problem.

Well at least that's one problem area you've eliminated. Red River is also
my favorite. Have you run the printhead alignment test and the nozzle check?
Either will show a blocked nozzle. Be sure to do this before running the
cleaning routine. Are you refilling? The wrong ink could also be a
contributing cause. Some (less than high on the ethics scale) suppliers
provide a similar but not exactly compatible ink. I also have a file in pdf
format I created that prints all available colors. I run it after refilling
to make sure ink is flowing properly. It would function just fine as a
cleaning tool and also show you if the banding is clearing up or getting
worse. Let me know if you want a copy. I'll be glad to send it as an email
attachment.

Thanks Ron I would like to have the file. That would be a good way to check.
I am refilling using MIS ink, who I have been told is very good, and have
refilled all ink tanks at least twice so far. I don't think it is the ink
but anything is possible. Thanks and I'll be looking for the file.

It seems I have found the right proffesional to help me with my i950
problem. I hope you can and are willing to help me.
My problem is my i950 all of a sudden gives me prints with an
overtone of green.first to say my paper is photopaper plus glossy
from Canon and I am very satisfied with this.
I tried to overcome my problem by repeated cleaning cycles and
nozzle check. The printed pattern of the nozzle test is:
the first line is very faint. the second line is hardly or not visible
the third line is even less than the first line.
prints are made with easy photo 4 x 6 .
Do you know a solution for my troubles ?????
Your help is really appreciated

You may have a bad print head. It happens. If cleaning doesn't solve the
issue I'd call Canon. They are supposed to be very good at sending out
warranty replacements, and as you know it only takes a few seconds to
install.

Canon's do not generally have clogging problems as bad as some other makes.
My i950 has sit for as long as 6 weeks and printed the first picture
perfectly when I did use it.

You didn't mention the Ink you are using as requested by the other poster.

If I am using Canon original Ink and Canon paper, do you have any printer
profiles for the I950, that I can upload to get a better output? I don't
really understand all this printer profiling so any advice would be
appreciated.

Don
