I386 network share in Mixed Enviroment

We have many xp machines with varying levels of patches applied
and we want to roll out MS FAx to some machines. When we install the msfax
printer the XP client asks for the install cdrom.
More to the point the i386 dir so that the MSFax windows component can be
loaded.

I want to change the reg setting that would normally prompt the user to
insert thier Winxp cdrom to point to a network location. ( I have this
setting already)

and i have triend this out with a couple of machines, this seems to work.

However, Is there/Can there be an issue with which version of I386 to share?

Is there a doc that would enable me to build a i386 that would have files
for each SP1 and SP2 files. Or is this needed?

Do i need to have a different share for each one? SP0, SP1, and SP2
If so is there a script that alrady exists that will connect the correct
share? How has anyone else solved this issue?

Thanks in advance

That is NOT a good idea. There may be situations where a driver change will cause a need to
load a file from i386 and the network would NOT be available.

It is FAR BETTER to have a c:\i386 or %windir%\i386 folder at SP2 level on WinXP SP2 PC's.

Example Registry...

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup

SourcePath = C:\
or

SourcePath = C:\WINDOWS\
or

SourcePath = C:\WINNT\
