Can someone tell me how to turn "off" the startup sound
when the XP welcome screen appears. I wrote to PC experts
Mag. --their instructions was to go to sounds\audio in
control panel open sounds, scroll to startup sound and
click in box "No sounds" I also have "allsounds" turned
off in the main sound scheme box. I don;t want\need any
windows sounds yet this startup sound is still there??
At my PC workstation my spks are out of sight, sometimes
i forget to turn them off when i shut down the PC..
When i start XP this "startup" sound kicks in and it
sometimes scares the life out of me!!
PLEASE can someone out there tell me how to switch it off
permanently!! I have creative SB audigy sound card on
board but i dont think this is affecting it from not
being able to be switched off!!!
Thanks
Dessie

You should be able in the Sound schemes there to be able to set any
windows sound effect to 'None' - in this case the Start Windows one.
But an alternative which inhibits the start and shutdown sounds is to
Use TweakUI - one of the XP Powertoys from (if you have installed XP
SP1)
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

If you have not installed SP1, the earlier version can be found at
http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe

Once installed you will find it in Start - All Programs - Powertoys for
Windows XP

If you in its General page uncheck 'Beep on errors' these sounds will
not be played
