I want to add 'listening-port' as an 'active connection'

Aw geez! I get same error response with this too.
I'll take a look at the explanation and get back to U.

Thanks

Jethro

I looked at the explanations, and see nothing significant except maybe
something 'video hook driver' which I see nowhere.
I tried un-installing UltraVNC on both machines and re-installing it,
but I saw nothing about 'hook' there either. So - I am stuck as to
what to do now.

Oh well...

The video hook driver is installed on the XP server machine. You can
download that from the UltraVNC site.

An authentication error would seem to point to a password problem or
something similar. When I used UltraVNC, a long long long long long time
ago, I never checked the two MS Logon checkboxes in the server config
authentication windows. I did require a password which I configured in that
window. Except for a unique password or a change in the listening port or
use of the encryption plug-in I used the default settings, as far as I can
remember...

There is also support available on the UltraVNC forums...

http://forum.ultravnc.info/

I don't use UltraVNC any longer so that is the best I can say...

Good luck...

For a non-standard port use the IP address followed by two colon characters
then the port number...

New day - new thoughts.

1) The server tutorial above clearly says to 'check yes to the hook
options during installations'. I have tried re-install twice and
still have never seen this feature, during installation or after.
Makes me wonder a little. Maybe the latest version or the free
version does not have this option, if that is what it is.

2) Anyway, I have UltraVNC working now. I found when I removed the
requirement of entering a login with a password, and instead did
connect with a password ONLY, that I was able to connect both ways.
RIGHT <=> LEFT. So I am in business.

3) I do notice something strange, though. I use a wide-screen LCD
monitor and use a resolution of 1280X768 because it was the only
resolution that my two machines' video cards would provide that would
fill the full screen width properly. Well, I notice that when I
connect from RIGHT to LEFT, and then quit the connect, RIGHT's desktop
icons are all squeezed leftward, and I have to manually move them back
to desktop's right edge. This does not happen on LEFT machine when I
connect and then un-connect from RIGHT machine. Seems strange to me.

Thanks for helps

I wish I knew what a 'video hook driver' would do for me. Do you
know?

Have you tried going to the UltraVNC web site and reading about it?

Cancel that! On http://forum.ultravnc.info/viewtopic.php?p=12711

I found:

The Mirror Video Driver is a driver that UltraVNC (for instance) can
use to be quickly and efficiently notified with screen changes. Using
it on an UltraVNC server results in a excellent accuracy. The video
driver also makes a direct link between the video driver frame memory
and UltraWinVNC server. Using the frame buffer directly eliminates the
use of the CPU for intensive screen blitting, resulting in a big speed
boost and very low CPU load.

What all software below ?

Mirror driver is only intended for UltraVNC nor other vnc flavor nor
others software.

Thanks

Forget #3!. I solved that problem by downloading the VNC plug-in.
