I receive emails in my outlook but I can not send an email?

When I check the "Test Account Setting" I receive two error messgaes; 1st
says - Send test e-mal message: The specified server was found, but there was
no response from the server. Please verify the port and SSL information is
correct. To access these settings close this dialog, then click on the
Advanced tab. 2nd error message says - Find outgoing mail server (SMTP):
Outlook could not connect to the outgoing mail server(SMTP). The problem
could be the server name and port, or your server may not suppor SSL. Verify
your port and SSL settings in More Settings under the Advanced tab.

OK...that a mouthful!

Anyway, this is a problem that just occured after a trip out of town for a
couple of weeks. I was not experiencing any issue before my departure and now
since returning I cannot send emails from outlook.

My laptop has no problem gaining access to the internet, that works fine.

I have a pop3 email account that is set up with outlook. Again incoming
email I do receive but for some reason I cannot send.

Can someone please let me know how to fix this problem. Thanks!

I had a similar problem. There is a setting called "my outgoing server
requires authentication" that fixed it for me.

In Outlook 2003, go to the screen that has your e-mail settings.
Click on the button More Settings
Click on the Outgoing Server Tab
You will see "my outgoing server requires authentication" at the top.

Tick it to see if that solves the problem for you. If it does not then
remember to untick it again.

Thanks a lot for the information given. I forgot to
mention that i am part of a lan and do not use outlook
2003. I have sr-1 office 2000 and I think that this thing
about authentication exists only on po3 accounts. Any
help? thank you in advance
