Hi!

Anyone have the ASUS A7N8X (Deluxe) using an Athlon XP Barton with PC3200
RAM?

I adjusted my FSB to 168 from 166Mhz with memory increased from 200Mhz to
201Mhz. I'm reluctant to increase it more.

What are others' max FSB for a Barton?

Run ram in sync of FSB... in bios set, Memory Frequency [100%]
Mine(non-dlx) can only do 211 with corsair PC3200LL.

Yes, I'm sure that most people are. This is a very difficult question to
answer as the extent to which you will be able to overclock the FSB depends
on your system configuration and quality of components used, including PSU,
cooling, RAM, bios settings etc.... At present I am currently running
12multi with an FSB of 225Mhz on an XP-M 2500+ (IQYHA stepping).
Incidentally, you should run your ram in sync with your FSB. NForce2 boards
do not like running in anything else, especially when overclocking. You
should run RAM in SYNC and set FSB accordingly - you don't say which XP chip
you have so cannot give anymore info. (Is it a 266/333Mhz variant?)

The other person also recommended running in-synch with RAM too - why?

and you saying I should using FSB of 100MHz? WOuld that not be *slower* and
under-clocking?

Start off with CPU and Memory running at 100%, e.g the CPU FSB being 333
(166x2) and the RAM being at 333 (166x2, or PC2700).

From here increase the FSB and keep the memory inline, e.g if you set the
FSB at 180, the RAM would also run at 180.

If you have a 2500+ most of the time you can hit 200/200, giving you the
performance of a 3200+

NForce 2 chipsets seem to run best when the FSB & RAM are in sync

Very hard to believe ;)

I have a 2600+ and natively at 166MHz (Barton). So do you think this CPU
could do a 200?

Well at least 9/10 on NForce 2 boards 2500+ CPU will hit 3200+ comfortably
with DDR400 RAM. A friend of mine is running like this on an Abit NF7
perfectly well (since at least November)

Try as far as you can push it going 5-10MHz at a time (depending on how
daring you are ;-) )
Bets on it getting to at least 180FSB with DDR400 and half decent cooling.
(My friend is running his 2500->3200 on retail cooling)

Thanks for the advice!

It is definately more logical if the memory frequency ran in sync with the
FSB.

I just changed the memory frequncy to 100% and now I get a message at the
POST saying optimised for good performace which I never had! So glad to see
that :p

My next step is to try to increase the clock.
