I need KB896344 but it won't install

I managed to download this update but when trying to install it I get a Setup
Error-"Failed to migrate dependent packages". I need this fix in order to be
able to transfer my files and settings that I saved on an external harddrive.
Does anyone have the solution?

That was the entire message.It was just a small window that opened with the
heading "Setup Error" and the other words I mentioned. I found another
posting that helped me to install the update, but now it starts the transfer
process and then stops after about 10% progress with the following message:

An error occurred while the wizard was loading your data.
The wizard cannot create the data needed to save your settings. Make sure
you have enough disk space available.

To close this wizard, click Finish.

This doesn't make sense??!! Dee
