I have a picture file and I have always saved my pictures using jpegs. All
of a sudden the computer tries to save every pic as bmps. When i click on
the save screen for "save as" it now only gives me the choice of saving in
the bmp format, jpeg does not appear. Can you tell me where i can go or how
to correct this mess? Thank you, Steve

BMPs are saved because your Temp Internet Cache is full. Empty it.

Rt click the IE icon > Properties > Temp Internet Files > Delete Files.

Basically, you need to clean up your temporary Internet files.

I too have the same problem, when I right click on a picture and choose save
picture as...i only get the option of an untitled name and as .bmp. I've
tried all the supposed fixes...deleted all temp internet files including off
line content and cookies...I increased the cache size to 300mb. I even went
to settings in the tempory internet files and clicked view objects. I delwted
all unknown and damaged objects. still the same. The only thing that has
changed was that on the 23rd I installed the following windows update:

Update for Windows XP (KB887742)
This update addresses an issue that could cause your system to stop
responding if certain firewall or antivirus programs are installed. You can
help resolve this issue by installing this HTTP.sys update from Microsoft.
After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer.

I'd appreciate any suggestions or ideas on how to fix this.
Thanks,
Thomas Fanizzi

In IE goto: tools / Internet options and click on "settings" button.
Click the "view objects" button. Get rid of anything there that does
not say installed in the status column. That should work. It did for
me with the same problem.
