Hello everyone

This is my problem, on Nov. 20 I bought at a store close to my house a Dell Dimension 2400, for 740.00, it included CR-R, Floppy, 256 MB Ram, WinXP, My first mistake was not to buy it directly from Dell. But well, it can not be undone. When I brought it home, I noticed that I was not the first person to have use it. I went to the store, they insisted it was brand new
I said OK. This is my first time using XP, my old one was 98 SE. Anyway, next day, I discover that there was another user account (Maria Marin) my name is Edna Frese. (I have beginnign to hate Maria Marin). I called Dell, they told me that the only way that that could happen was becasue she was a previos owner. It was registered on her name. Went to the store, they kept insisting that it was new. I even took to the store some papers that showed that some of my documents were ending up on her settings.
I found the bill of lading of the PC, and it arrived at the store on Nov 6, 2003, there are doc. from MM that I found from the 10th to the 14th, I bought mine on the 20th
I was frustrated wit the store, but Dell told me that there was a way that they could fix it. I was neer able to delete everything from MM, the PC would say that they were systems and could not be uninstalled or deleted
Finally, last week I got the awful system error that turns the screen blue and tell you all kind of information. I was gettng that error, every day, sometimes 2 times a day. Last Sunday, it frozed. I was never able to get my documents and not even upgrades that I bought. I took it to the store Monday, they wanted me to wait until they send it to the technician, and take it back, I worked through the internet, I was going to loose quite a lot of money, I had a deadline. Anyway, the only thing they could do was give me another model, the only one available was Dimension 4600.
The problem is that he did not give me the owner's manual, because I wrote the other manual with the errors information. He also made me keep the same disks, Since I did not see the computer in the store, I noticed when I got home that instead of Roxio this ound had Sonic, I had already bought an upgrade for Roxio. The Jasc progran that this new one has I already bought it, there was no problem becasue they send me the installation instructions
I wonder if anyone can help me in terms of having a similar experience, if I should request the store owner to give me the correspondent manual and discs and if Dell as a company could do something to that vendor. I do not know what, but at least some kind of reprimend to them
Well I did not want to take all your time, I need help.

Maybe you are better off with the 4600. It is generally a higher rated
machine than the 2400. Compare one versus the other, item for item. For
example, compare the speed of the CPU in each machine, compare the size of
each hard drive, and compare the size of each screen, etc. If you were not
required to fork over more cash to get the 4600, it is very possible that
you would end up with more for your money than the original deal for the
2400.

Good luck.

In my opinion, the store is way out of line on this. You should receive the
manuals and the disks for the 4600. Besides a different software
assortment, the drivers will be different.

PS: If not able to obtain these things from the store, you should be able
to order a replacement set from Dell.

I don't know what Country you live in but what the store did was completely against the law in my Country. You have up to 30 days to get your money back and what you should have done was plug the computer in at the store and show them where the Registered Owner entry was in the registry and that you weren't the first user and get your money back. You could contact the BBB as well as posting the name of the store here for others to watch out for and perhaps aid you by having a contact for that store. Dell doesn't have the best reputation for aiding it's customers and certainly isn't the sytem of choice for me. The Dell customer assistance department should have gone to bat for you at the very least. e:mail their execs and see what they say. Good luck.

Thank you very much for your answers and I am very sorry that I di
not reply to all of you who kindly took your time to respond
Since my first posting a couple of things happened. This compute
the 4600 froze up to a point that I even lost a series of documents
I called Dell Technical Assistance. At first they could not help m
because this PC was registered to Top Hat Appliances (that is th
name of the store) located on East Tremont, Bronx, New York.
My call was transfered to Cust. Serv. where they made the change t
my name, then transferred back to Technical Support.
The technician that took my called went out of his way to help me, w
had to installed XP again, many drivers and at this point he is stil
monitoring the PC.
I explained to him what had happened and he was very apologetic.
understand that I made the mistake of buying the PC from a loca
vendor instead of directly from DELL. The reason for that mistake i
that I live in the neighborhood and I am a member of an organizatio
of tenants and business owners that strive to support loca
businesses. Also in 1999, I bought a Compaq Presario from them an
there was no problem.

You are completely right, because when I called Dell the first time les
than a week after I got the Maria Marin PC, they did not help al all. Th
technician that help me this last time told me that if the PC had les
than 30 days in the store I would have been able to returned it straigh
to Dell, At that time I would have been able to retuned it, they got i
on the 7th of Nov. MM had it at least from the 10th to the 14th, I bough
it on the 20th. I do not know about this new one, but apparently it wa
in the store for more that a month, because the technician did no
mentioned the possibility of returning this one.

That was another mistake, the first time I went to the store about the M
issue, I did not take the PC with me, however I did took a list of error
that were originated at the settings of MM, they did not care as a matte
of fact I was scolded because I had no business going into those files
like it was my vault for all the errors because I was messing up m
computer by going into system files.

The 4600 is faster, the only problem is that it does not have a flopp
drive, the other one had, and I had to pay 100 dollars more. So it was n
deal.

This new 4600 has been with me less than 30 days, but I know that th
owner of the store is not going to give me my money back. Besides, I hat
him so much that I would only look at his face if we have to meet at th
small claims court.

Another mistake on my part, was that I had a budget of 1200 for the PC,
should have made more research and not try to save a couple of hundre
dollars going through all this.

If anyone have some more suggestions feel free to e-mail me at
(e-mail address removed)

Thanks to all,

Edna *
