I have problem sending outgoing SMTP mail

A

ASG

I am using Vista Ultimate Mail.
I am trying to set up POP3 email. I am able to receive incoming POP email.
I am unable to send outgoing SMTP email with GMAIL.

I got a WinMail.exe message "The server you are connected to is using a
security certificate that could not be verified"
"The certificate's CN name does not match the passed value"
Do you want to continue using this server?
[Yes]

Windows Mail error message:
Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Subject "test", account: (e-mail address removed), Server "smtp.com",
Protocol:SMTP, Port:995, Secure (SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x800CCDF

I am able to send and receive with my XP system. So what is my problem?

You have the port set to 995 instead of 465 is one problem.

Correct that, try again and post any new error message.

Tools > Accounts >your email > Properties >Advanced >
Outgoing Mail > set it to 465

Go to your account settings are uncheck the SSL check boxes. It seems to
work intermittently with SSL enabled. I think its more of an issue with your
ISP internet provider. The same thing just happened to me after working for
a few days, even after doing a clean reset of Windows Mail and changing
antivirus programs from McAfee to Avast installed with email scanning
disabled. When I disabled SSL, I was then able to send mail again without
any errors like yours.

That is completely wrong.( apart from using Avast)
The OP has the server name wrong...; it should be smtp.gmail.com
the port is wrong... it should be 465, and you were misleading the OP
by suggesting that SSL should be unchecked.

OP... go to
Tools Accounts > your email > Properties > Servers and Advanced and
correct the errors.

See the Gmail instructions (OE same as WM)

I think you meant, SSL should be checked.

Yep I missed that the SMTP address and port was wrong. I was looking at the
hex error code. Didn't mean to mislead. As far as unchecking SSL, it fixed
my problem sending mail and I had the correct port numbers provided by
Comcast. Yet it worked for some time with SSL checked. Maybe it was a
temporary Comcast error or maybe Windows Mail screwed up. Who knows...

Gmail and Comcast are not the same thing.

Thank you Julian. You are right. The SMTP port should be 465, POP port 995.
Microsoft has the order revserse. Thank you.
